Escape to the wilds of the California’s most Northern Wine Country and the Mendocino Coastline
Artist Desiree Habicht will be hosting a week long excursion of the land and sea while you document country life in this rugged California outpost. We’ll be based at The Madrones. This Mediterranean estate serves as a community outpost for local artisans: home to four vintners, a wood-fired pizzeria, several estate guest quarters, a bocce ball court, serene courtyards, the Bohemian Hall meeting room and carefully manicured English gardens. The Madrones and its artisan partners have created the Anderson Valley definition of an Italian “Agriturismo”, a destination that offers a slice of localized country living with a focus on the region’s wine, food, arts, and beauty.
Our program will begin on Friday with a welcome dinner on the property. Our days will be spent enjoying the painting and sketching classes of our special guest artist/instructor Desiree Habicht. Explore the regions vineyards, redwood forest, rustic coastline and visit private wineries and working farms, during the peak of the harvest session.
Classes are perfect for beginners, or those wanting to practice and improve their techniques. Using pencil, pen, pastels and travel watercolors, we’ll illustrate the details of this beautiful region as well as have an intimate glimpse of American country life as you tour vineyards, forest and coastlines. Desiree is known for her fun and supportive instruction and she will teach you to draw and paint in your own style. The estate’s Bohemian Hall will also be set aside as a workplace for “at home” class time where you will work with other artist mediums such as fabric and mono printing.
We’ve included a visit to a State park with old growth redwoods, a visit to a working ranch that produces olive oil, a tour of a winery with a private tasting with a winemaker, an afternoon of Bocce Ball and wine tasting, trip to the historic seaside village of Mendocino, a field hike and sketching excursion with a local naturalist as well as some few other seasonal surprises.
The week of touring, painting and journaling will wrap up with a farewell dinner. We’ll compile your week of sketches and paintings in artist travel log for you to return home with.
